13-04-07 - SHARC REPORT - The Recycling Mess in Stockton Heath
Anyone who has been trying to do their bit and recycle in Stockton Heath has been met by the sight of plastic bottles strewn all over the place. The containers were full both at the Forge Cark Park and at the refuse site on Sandy Lane.
Patrick Mullee - Standing as an Indendent for Stockton Heath on May 3rd said
"This is happening on a regular basis, residents are not happy. They are doing their best to recycle but are being put off by the fact that the bins are full and the mess!”
The Forge car park was an embarrassment to everyone in Stockton Heath last weekend!
Patrick went on to say “Plastic bags are blowing all over the area, into the churchyard and surrounding car park and gardens.
Warrington just aren’t putting enough resources into recycling. There aren’t enough litter bins in the area of the car park and Forge area for people to put their other waste into”

FURY OVER BINS: Overflowing recycling containers at the Forge IP11407 |
STOCKTON Heath residents are furious over rubbish overflowing from recycling containers in the village.
People are angry that bottles, cans and cardboard are strewn on the ground at the Forge car park because the containers have not been emptied.
The Warrington Guardian has received a number of complaints about the state of the bottle, cardboard and metal-recycling containers located on the lower part of the car park, near St Thomas's Church.
Stockton Heath parish councillor Graham Roughsedge said: "It is a disgrace the council has just left it to look like a rubbish site all because they haven't got the inclination to come and clean it up."
Residents say they are sick of being told to go green but when they make an effort to recycle they cannot leave their rubbish because of the neglected containers.
David Edwards, of Pangbourne Close, Appleton, said: "I feel ashamed to live in an area which looks so filthy.
"It was very smelly when I went down.
"Every container was full. The council wants you to recycle but you can't recycle. It's the council neglecting its duties "Any visitors who come to Stockton Heath and see that will think we live in a dump."
People are also worried the rubbish will attract rats.
A spokesman for Warrington Borough Council said: "Contractors regularly empty bring sites across Warrington, however, the equipment used for removing waste broke down during a collection last weekend and contractors were unable to fully empty the containers.The site has now been fully emptied." -

We visited on Saturday 31st March and found Celia Jordan there canvassing for the Liberal Democrats, just before the weekly wagon came to empty the plastic bins which were full again. Well what happened next further compounded the situation. The Wagon lost all of its Hydraulic Fluid all over the Car Park! The Hydraulic fluid was all over the place where many people were trying to recycle. The fluid just went down the drains adding to pollution. Celia made a quick exit to the nearby St Thomas’s church!
So you couldn't go and deposit your recycling at the Forge car park so off to the Council Waste site at Sandy Lane as they have recycling bins there too! This is what we and the community were greeted with!

Warrington Prides itself on it's achievments
How the Council quite frankly can say this when the bins are full and you deposit your Recyclable bottles into Skips 1 + 2 THE SKIPS FOR NON RECYCLABLE WASTE! What a waste of time no wonder we the community of Stockton Heath are angry people. The council should be doing a lot more to encourage it's communities to recycle. It needs to get smarter in 2007.
